It may have been the sixth day for Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi but it also led to a decrease of more than 50% when compared to Friday (Rs. 10.50 crores). What makes this even more astonishing is that fortunately, the film did not suffer much from the drop- just yet at least -and will most likely score well on its second weekend too.
If we take into account the release of Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund next week, as well as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman – which will both first make an appearance tomorrow- Gangubai Kathiawadi could soon overtake a million crore mark. Currently, if a movie earns only enough to cover production costs, it is considered successful and able to profit enough to be hit.
However, considering what Gangubai Kathiawadi has already made after ten days in theaters at 63.53 crores, and setting sights on being the second billion dollar film from India (after Sooryavanshi), this Alia Bhatt led project could turn out perfect for producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada without question. With hope higher than ever that such successes are becoming more common again thanks to movies like these two; Indian cinema may yet revive with other daring projects challenging conventional norms too.
