Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt was released last week and has been making money ever since. After an initial impressive start, audiences were flocking to theaters all across India for this movie during its opening weekend. Despite there being few hits in recent weeks for cinema-goers to choose from, Gangubai Kathiawadi still managed to make a whopping Rs. 68.93 crores domestically after one week in theaters.
In this box office report we take a look at how Gangubai Kathiawadi fared in different territories while breaking the same down based on geographical regions. We find that Mumbai -considered to be one of India’s largest cities- was it again with an estimated collection of Rs 27.92 crores, which accounts for nearly 40% of the film’s total earnings! Delhi-UP was next with about 10% less than what Mumbai had made (Rs 10.65 crores) followed by East Punjab (Rs 5.33 crores), Rajasthan (Rs 4.06 crores), and finally Nizam-AP (Rs 3.99 crores).
Currently, Gangubai Kathiawadi continues to run in theaters; with California’s relaxation of pandemic protocols, the business for this movie is expected to be higher. In fact, according to recent industry estimates, with Maharashtra and some other states permitting 100% occupancy in theaters, the business for Gangubai Kathiawadi will see exponential growth over its second weekend – something few movies can boast about.
