The SS Rajamouli directed mega budget entertainer RRR starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn hit screens last week on Friday. Being one of the most talked about and keenly anticipated releases of recent times, expectations of the film’s business were at an all-time high. In fact, marking Rajamouli’s first directorial venture post the hugely successful Baahubali saga, the film was touted to be one of the biggest money spinners of the year.
Thankfully, one does not have to wonder what made the Rs. 6.11 crore film successful in overseas markets, for even before it hit theaters across the UK and Ireland, it was already doing well when it toured 161 screens around the country – where tickets were sold for the movie at £6,08,384 [Rs. 6.1 cr].
Currently ranked 4th on cinema charts throughout UK and Ireland with just under $7 million (6 lakhs) total earnings until now – RRR managed to perform better than other previous films such as Akshay Kumar’s Airlift and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayengee – which earned roughly 3-4 lakhs less than what they did respectively (despite those films releasing over two decades ago). Despite seeing only a marginal change in daily profits up until now, trade estimates expect both of these numbers to grow rapidly going forward if current trends continue!
