Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s slice-of-life comedy, Thank God is a disappointing fare at the box office in India. After collecting Rs. 14.10 crore over the first two days, Thank God has collected in the range of Rs. 4.00 to 4.50 crores on its third day, taking the total collection to Rs. 18.10 crore (USD 290 million).
These are lower numbers than many had anticipated for this Diwali release where it seems like it should have done significantly better based off of how much noise was made about it before its release date came up – which was primarily because it didn’t attract enough attention or make people laugh enough to see through its lackluster jokes throughout India; particularly in regions such as Gujarat or Rajasthan where audiences might have expected them to do some business because comedies typically do well there during this time of year (the traditional Indian Summer period).
This race to hit the high number of 50 crore will start tomorrow; with all things being equal, it will come down short but still hopes to make its target. Clashing with Ram Setu didn’t help anything and while we did anticipate a lower return than usual after calculating this information, there was still an expectation of making at least Rs. 25 crores within three days; something that so far has only been met in certain pockets around CP (Capital Punishment) and CI (Criminal Injustice). Luckily for us though, Gujarat and Rajasthan – two regions especially benefitting from this prolonged Divali holiday period – have seen steadily increasing numbers thanks to their dwindling water supply, which has caused them to purchase water instead.
