सालों पहले एक गांव में कोकिला और महेशभाई नाम के पति-पत्नी रहते थे। उनका जीवन सुख के साथ बीत रहा था। दोनों में प्रेम और स्नेह भी बहुत था, लेकिन कभी-कभी कोकिला के पति महेश गुस्से में पत्नी से झगड़ा कर लेता था। कुछ समय बाद जब उसका गुस्सा शांत होता, तो उसे अपने किए पर शर्मिंदगी भी होती थी।
कोकिला को पता था कि उसके पति को अपने व्यवसाय में फायदा नहीं हो रहा है, जिसकी वजह से उनका स्वभाव चिड़चिड़ा हो गया है। इसी वजह से कोकिला पलटकर कोई जवाब नहीं देती थी। काम सही से न चलने के कारण महेश का ज्यादातर समय घर में ही बीत रहा था। उसकी पत्नी बड़ी ही धार्मिक स्वभाव की थी। घर में खुशियां लाने के लिए वो धर्म-कर्म करती रहती थी।

एक दिन दोपहर के समय उनके घर में एक बूढ़े महात्मा आए। उनके चेहरे के तेज को देखकर दोनों का सिर श्रद्धा से झुक गया। महात्मा ने उनसे कुछ दान करने के लिए कहा। कोकिला ने महात्मा को भिक्षा में दाल और चावल दिए और प्रणाम करके उनके सामने बैठ गई। उसी समय कोकिला की आंखों से आंसू बहने लगे।
कोकिला के आंसू देखकर महात्मा ने इसका कारण पूछा। जवाब में कोकिला ने अपने घर का सारा हाल बता दिया। उसकी बातों को सुनकर महात्मा ने कोकिला को उपाय के रूप में साईं बाबा का व्रत करने को कहा। साथ ही इसकी विधि बताते हुए बोले कि लगातार नौ गुरुवार तक एक समय खाना खाकर पूरी विधि से साईं बाबा की पूजा करने से उसके सारे दुख दूर हो जांएगे।

कोकिला ने महात्मा के अनुसार बताई गई विधि से प्रत्येक गुरुवार को साईं बाबा का व्रत किया। फिर आखिरी यानी 9वें गुरुवार को उसे गरीबों को भोजन कराना और साईं पुस्तकें बांटनी थी। किसी तरह से खाना और किताबों का इंतजाम करके कोकिला ने ये सब कार्य भी पूरा कर लिया। जैसे ही यह सारे कार्य सम्पन्न हुए कोकिला के घर में होने वाले झगड़े और महेशभाई के कारोबार में आई अड़चनें दूर हो गईं।
अब दोनों पति-पत्नी सुख से अपनी जिंदगी जी रहे थे। एक दिन कोकिला की जठानी और कोकिला आपस में घर-परिवार से जुड़ी बातें करने लगे। उसी समय कोकिला की जेठानी ने उसे बताया कि उसके बच्चों का मन पढ़ाई में नहीं लगता और वो स्कूल की हर परीक्षा में फेल हो जाता है।

जेठानी की बातें सुनकर कोकिला का मन भर आया। उसने तुरंत साईं व्रत के बारे में अपनी जेठानी को बताया। पहले कोकिला ने अपने घर का किस्सा सुनाया कि वो कितने परेशान थे और साईं बाबा कि कृपा से आज कितने सुखी हैं। उसके बाद कोकिला ने अपनी जेठानी को पूरे 9 गुरुवार साईं व्रत करने को कहा और उसकी विधि भी बताई।
कोकिला की जेठीनी ने ठीक वैसा ही किया और कुछ ही समय में उसके जीवन का संकट भी दूर हो गया। उसका बच्चे का मन पढ़ाई में लगने लगा और उसके अच्छे अंक आने लगे।

Years ago, a husband and wife named Kokila and Maheshbhai lived in a village. His life was going on happily. Both had a lot of love and affection, but sometimes Kokila’s husband Mahesh used to quarrel with his wife in anger. After some time when his anger subsided, he used to feel ashamed of his actions.
Kokila knew that her husband was not getting profit in his business, due to which his nature has become irritable. For this reason the nightingale did not return any reply. Due to not working properly, Mahesh was spending most of his time at home. His wife was very religious in nature. She used to do religious deeds to bring happiness in the house.

One day in the afternoon an old Mahatma came to his house. Seeing the radiance of his face, both of them bowed their heads in reverence. The Mahatma asked him to donate something. Kokila gave dal and rice as alms to Mahatma and sat in front of him after bowing down. At the same time tears started flowing from Kokila’s eyes.
Seeing the tears of Kokila, Mahatma asked the reason for this. In response, Kokila told the whole condition of her house. After listening to her words, Mahatma asked Kokila to observe Sai Baba’s fast as a remedy. Along with explaining its method, he said that by eating food at one time for nine consecutive Thursdays and worshiping Sai Baba with full method, all his sorrows will go away.

Kokila observed Sai Baba’s fast every Thursday according to the method prescribed by the Mahatma. Then on the last i.e. 9th Thursday, he had to feed the poor and distribute Sai books. Somehow Kokila completed all these tasks by arranging food and books. As soon as all these tasks were completed, the quarrels in Kokila’s house and the obstacles in Maheshbhai’s business were removed.
Now both husband and wife were living their life happily. One day Kokila’s sister-in-law and Kokila started talking about their family. At the same time, Kokila’s sister-in-law told her that her children are not interested in studies and they fail in every school exam.

Kokila’s heart was filled with tears after hearing the words of her sister-in-law. He immediately told his sister-in-law about Sai Vrat. First Kokila narrated the story of her home that how upset she was and how happy she is today by the grace of Sai Baba. After that Kokila asked her sister-in-law to observe Sai Vrat for the whole 9 Thursdays and also told her the method.
Kokila’s sister-in-law did exactly that and in no time the crisis in her life also went away. His child’s mind started getting engaged in studies and he started getting good marks.
