Hema Malini is a phenomenal dancer and actor. Her father, who goes by V.S.R. Chakravarthy, was a regional film distributor who would eventually produce films for his daughter to star in when she grew older; her mother is Jaya Mascarenhas-Malini (née Naidu). Hema was born in a Tamil-speaking family on October 16, 1948, in Amman Kudi, Tamil Nadu. Hema had a hit on-screen pairing with actors such as Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor and Dev Anand during the ’70s and after her marriage she starred alongside Rajesh Khanna for over 8 years.
The duo of Dharmendra – Hema Malini recorded 3 hits together during those times while three of their films were considered to be flops. It is also important to note that there are two movies in which Hema performed opposite Rajesh Khanna where one movie became a box office success while the other became an unpopular film. On August 21, 1979, Hema and Dharmendra both converted to Islam, changing their names to Aisha Bi R. Chakravarty and Delaware Khan Kewalo Krishan respectively before they were married in accordance with Islamic rites.
