Was it going to set the path for other releases to come, now that theaters had opened up all over again across the country? That was the question many people in exhibition circles, distributors, filmmakers and industry members were waiting to get answered once curtains went back up around Sooryavanshi. It was a milestone event in itself – Akshay Kumar’s new film was basically one of the very first films out there being released into theaters after March 2020 when pandemic showed its ugly side. Now that things had calmed down after the second wave passed through – Sooryvanshi became a litmus test for Bollywood moguls.
It was a new frontier that Sooryavanshi had never seen before. Working his way through multiplexes, he needed to come up against other genres in order for himself to succeed. But now it seemed possible. It was the first time Indian film reached such levels of international success; being comparable to films from Hollywood and China alike, like Good News, Housefull 4, and Mission Mangal – all with box office takings over $200 million apiece.
Will Akshay Kumar score another double century this time with Rohit Shetty whose last release Simmba was also a blockbuster with a double century score? There’s hope that he will! But before that happens, we need to take things one step at a time. After all, how could you predict how much money will be made when we are living in the post-pandemic era where films are breaking records left and right? Similarly, if the movie had an opening weekend collection of thirty crores then its sequel can still do well too if they have equally competent production values.
After all, they haven’t been able to see this happen for years now and people are expecting it from Sooryavanshi right now. All these questions will be answered once Friday comes to an end but until then it seems likely that an opening day collection of twenty or twenty five crore rupees might happen which is great news so far!
