The Alia Bhatt-starring film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been in high demand since it was released last week. This was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has had strong weekday ticket sales ever since its premiere, due to the movie being well-reviewed and receiving good feedback from audiences.
It seems it may even come close to challenging an early prediction as the best opening weekend grossing film of this year which, up until now, is currently held by Badhai Dee. The few movies released so far for this new year are hardly doing well at all – but given the recent trend where we’ve seen some amazing movies lately (such as Dhadak) if anyone can beat out Badhai Dee or have a similar fate it would probably be Gangubai Katthiwadi.
Currently showing on movie screens with little competition expected from the new release Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund, Gangubai Kathiawadi’s business is predicted to see immense growth over this weekend in theatres. With the return of theatre business to a full capacity – which has been around 100% up until now- trade predictions say that it won’t be long before they reach (if not exceed) Rs. 100 crores.
