If you’re looking for anime like Devil’s Line, then keep reading! This series is one of those where we might think: Great, another edgy vampire show trying to make a name for itself by being different from others. However – don’t worry. It has all the needed pieces to make it an enjoyable watch – action, horror, comedy, mature content and much more.
One of my favorite things about this Anime is how it stays true to its theme. It always manages to keep the plot fresh without going too far and creating an awkward experience for viewers – which is something I really appreciate when watching something new. For example, take Tsukasa; she falls in love with Anzai after he saved her from a Vampire attack. They then go on to work together at a business where they specialize in cases involving Vampires or other devilish creatures known as ‘Devils’. Even though it sounds typical at first glance, Devil’s Line has some tricks up its sleeve that make sure every episode leaves you feeling satisfied.
1. Tokyo Ghoul
This is the first of many reasons I will discuss regarding my love for this anime. Tokyo Ghoul is an anime created by Sui Ishida – who can say no to supernatural horror? It follows Ken Kaneki, a college student with a rather peaceful life; until he meets Rize Kamishiro – she’s a ghoul and everything changes for him.
In this story, ghouls kill and devour humans. After being attacked by one, Ken turned into a half-ghoul, half-human. Both Devil’s Line and Tokyo Ghoul share many similarities but the most significant similarity is that they are both dealing with inner demons in order to maintain their humanity. They key difference between them is that Tokyo Ghoul deals heavily with gore whereas Devil’s Line has little to none of that kind of content. However if you wanted an even better experience while reading TG please read the manga because I find it significantly better than watching the anime adaption. Please give me feedback!
2. Servamp
Continuing with the supernatural theme, this one has a much more light-hearted and humorous tone. 2016’s Servamp stars Mahiru Shirota, a fifteen year old college student who likes to live an uncomplicated life just like I do; but everything changed when he found a black cat named Kuro (which translates to black in Japanese). Turns out the cat was actually a vampire – which made for some great comedy relief!
After accidentally forming a pact with him, Mahiru became dragged into various battles with other Servants. You are correct if you think Servamp sounds like the offspring of Fate and Blood Lad – it does have similarities after all. But I’m right too when I say this manga is genuinely worthwhile; it has lighter tones which give readers an enjoyable break from otherwise dark-themed tales. If a reader was interested in series such as Devil’s Line or Aku no Hana (AkuHana), they may find that they enjoy these themes even more than they would originally thought. It is also important to note that both Devil’s Line and Servamp were created by Platinum Vision Animation Studios.
3. Call of the Night, or Yofukashi no Uta
This anime is currently airing and is one of the best anime of 2022 in my opinion. And I am not saying this because Sora Amamiya is voicing the protagonist. Call of the Night follows a 16-year-old high school student named Ko Yamori who suffers from insomnia due to stress, depression, and social anxiety disorder. When his mental state worsens even further, he eventually stops attending classes all together – instead opting to explore the city at night where he meets otherworldly creatures such as vampires (like Nazuna Nanakusa) that are forced out during nighttime hours for some odd reason. Feeling like his only solace comes from these rare encounters with these beings – Ko asks whether she could make him an immortal creature just like her…
Call of the Night is another anime with a lighter tone than Devil’s Line. It focuses more on the romantic side of a vampire story because Nazuna tells Ko that she will turn him into a vampire only if he falls in love with her first. But this anime has both a comedic and supernatural aspect to it, adding an unexpected twist. Created by Kotoyama – the same man behind Dagashi Kashi – there seems to be no end to what he can create!
4. Ajin: Demi-Human
This anime probably has one of the best opening themes on the list. If you haven’t listened to Can You Sleep at Night? by Flumpool, then go ahead – I’ll wait for you here…You done? Alright! You’re welcome! Ajin is undoubtedly one of the best 3D animations around. Nearly all 3D animations are subpar – it’s just that good. The show starts off simple enough: a college student named Nagai Kei finds out he is an Ajin after getting hit by a car in broad daylight..
An Ajin is a human with immortality and extreme regenerative abilities that allows them to recover from any wound in seconds. What does this mean for Deadpool? He’s also an Ajin! In addition, they can create black ghosts which are combat-oriented entities only visible to other Ajins. However, the people fear these creatures because of their unusual healing powers so the government has started hunting those who exhibit supernatural feats such as these; just like what happened in Devil’s Line. To make matters worse – Ajins have fallen under suspicion because some have committed criminal acts just like what happened in Devil’s Line. So do me a favor and go check out both series!
5. Psycho-Pass
Most would agree that Psycho-Pass easily has the most riveting opening theme of all series, but there is no debating its brilliance. Every time I hear it played in my head, my heart skips a beat and tears come to my eyes. It captures the essence of what an opening sequence should make you feel while watching – excitement, anticipation and intrigue. As futuristic Japan comes into play through animation, we are introduced to an organization called Sybil which monitors people’s mental health and determines who will or will not commit a crime before they do it themselves. If only we could live life without crime just because someone says so…
This is the Story of Psycho-Pass, an unforgiving system which measures an individual’s Crime Coefficient. It follows Inspector Akane Tsunemori and the Japanese Police Force through their daily lives in order to maintain peace. As for my recommendation – I suggest it for those who are looking for something similar to Devil’s Line but has more violence and murder scenes so far. As someone who has watched both series, they share a vague similarity between them where you can’t seem to stop watching once you start. In fact, Shogo Makishima (Psycho-Pass) and Kikuhara (Devil’s Line) share the same voice actor – Takahiro Sakurai!
6. Shiki
Recently released in 2010, Shiki is an anime worth watching if you’re fond of the subtle and dark undertones found within shows such as Devil’s Line. It follows the life of Sotoba: a small village whose paranoia becomes heightened during summertime in 1994 when people are dying at alarming rates. To appease this fear, the local doctor Toshio and monk Seishin investigate but their efforts don’t deter anyone from being killed – one by one- including members from other villages nearby. The paranoia has risen to a peak point when it comes time for the Kirishikis to arrive; a family who seem just too strange for some villagers’ taste.
Our protagonist, Natsuno Yuuki, is a teenager who longs for life in that village where death relentlessly pursues him. Shiki explores what it means to be human and twisted at the same time- unbalanced with an insatiable thirst for blood. Whether the manga or anime version of Shiki is better remains unanswered, however both are worth experiencing because they explore humanity while also exploring how easily one can break free from its restrictions. What makes this series special though is the dedication to ‘Salem’s Lot’, Stephen King’s 1975 masterpiece.
7. Mars Red
This is the second anime created exclusively for this list, and it’s based off a modern-day theatrical production by Bun-O Fujisawa. Code 0: 2021 takes place in an alternate era of 1923 where vampires have been well established; but one day everyone starts becoming infested with these animals from out of nowhere – some being called Ascra because they feed solely on them. In response to this epidemic, the Japanese government creates Special Forces Unit 16 which handles all sorts of vampiric scum (specifically), including their leader Yoshinobu Maeda who does his damnedest best to wipe out every last one before he bites it himself.
They were charged with eliminating the dangers that threatened to disrupt the blood supply. Unlike Devil’s Line, this story had no romance in it whatsoever; rather than focusing on love interests, it was focused solely on duty- just like many others before them. At first glance, it might seem as if they’re very similar but there are also some definite differences. What captured my attention most was how they handled combat scenes- while still retaining some sense of beauty and gracefulness from earlier installments in the franchise (such as Tower of God), there seemed to be an even greater degree of brutality than before- clearly aiming for a more mature audience who is able to handle such themes.
8. Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective
This is one of the oldest anime mentioned on this list thus far, but it proves time and time again that you can’t judge an anime by its age. Nightwalker (1998) tells the story of a detective who was turned into a vampire at some point during his life. With amnesia, he has no idea when or why he became a vampire. He works for NO-S, an organization whose goal is to find night breed – those creatures who attack humans in order to feast on their soul – and send them back where they came while trying to remember how he got there himself.
Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective is a gothic anime that involves vampires dealing with demons with the necessary darkness and gothic horror a story like this should have. It has good drama, good mystery, and sometimes characters who are either too shy or go without clothes because they’re only wearing underwear. Well, Nightwalker is originally an erotic game released in 1993; at its time there were no established guidelines for how much skin one character could show when they’re being sexualized by artists.
9. Blood+
2005’s Blood+ is an undeniable classic that has attained a large fan base since its release. Being a popular original anime, it quickly spawned a series of manga adaptations soon after the first season aired. The movie Blood: The Last Vampire (2000) served as its inspiration for the unusual plotline about human beings struggling to survive in their own world filled with flesh-eating monsters whose ichor must be dissolved by one’s own blood. In order to discover and remember her past, Saya Otonashi sets out on an adventure to hunt down all the beasts while trying not to lose her sense of humanity in the process.
Both Blood+ and Devil’s Line are full of mystery, vampirism, and evil creatures who need blood to survive. These two anime make you reconsider what is right or wrong – especially when it comes down to the morals of people living alongside these beings. People who fight for justice come into conflict with people who don’t care about anything but themselves. There are also moments where different feelings come out; including love, hatred and anger – which ultimately has an effect on how you perceive each character.
10. Vampire Knight
Let’s talk about something a little more exciting. Vampire Knight aired in 2008 and quickly became an international success due to its gripping plot-line involving vampires, which are always all the rage these days. To give you some background information before we go any further, let me tell you that ten years ago young Yuki was saved by one such blood thirsty vampire named Kaname Kuran from the attack of another rogue vampire; ten years later he meets her again at her new school where she falls for him after he saves her once again.
Alongside of her was Zero Kiryuu, a faithful friend who hated vampires, had become one through his own will and now hunted them for what they did to him. At the same time he also loved Yuki Kuran deeply as she had saved him from himself so long ago. This played out like most romance stories where the male protagonist saves the female protagonist (except in this case it was vice versa) but there were darker themes present that fit well with its genre under Dark Fantasy anime or manga.
11. Owari no Seraph or Seraph of the End
2015’s Owari no Seraph is an anime like none other. The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where nobody survived a deadly virus, leaving just those 13 and under alive. And though all seems hopeless for humanity at first, there are still rebels against the reign of vampires who do everything they can to fight them off – even if it means dying in the process – so they might one day find peace once again.
Yūichi Hyakuya was one of the lucky few people left alive after The Great Destruction. He lost his childhood friend and partner, Mikaela Hyakuya; brutally murdered by vampires. After grieving for his fallen comrade, Yūichi joined the Eastern Imperial Demon Army in pursuit of revenge against all vampires throughout the world. Owari no Serafu is a riveting adventure through both lightheartedness and heavy themes that showcases what it means to be human when there are only humans left; mirroring Devil’s Line beautifully while still remaining unique unto itself.
12. Ghost Hunt
Hey, if you know this anime congratulations! Not many people are aware of it. Actually Ghost Hunt, the novel from 1994, was written by Fuyumi Ono, the same novelist who wrote Shiki back in 1998. In 2006’s Ghost Hunter (originally titled Akuryo Series), Taniyama Mai has dreams of catching spirits while attending high school with her friends and interests include ghost hunting too. She decides to go on a fun adventure investigating an old abandoned building but finds out that there may be something very wrong inside after all…
As the story progresses, Mai learns more about demons and spirits and starts developing new abilities. This one contains horror, thriller, and a little bit of romance- it features no vampires at all though unfortunately. Unlike Shiki however, both Devil’s Line and Ghost Hunt have a similar dark atmosphere despite dealing with completely different supernatural themes. So if you’re like me and you love both of those shows then make sure to watch Ghost Hunt; it’s less bloody but has similar scary parts that give you goosebumps without fail.
13. Platinum End
In this anime, Mirai Kakehashi is a high school student who lives with his abusive uncle and aunt after his family died in a car explosion. He decides to take his own life by jumping from a skyscraper when an angel named Nasse saves him. This angel later bestows upon him special abilities and tells him that there are other humans with angels within the city who will fight to replace God, as he plans to retire in 999 days.
Devil’s Line reminds me of Platinum End due to the supernatural aspects found within the story. It also draws my attention due to its similarity with Ajin; both stories revolve around people possessing different types of extraordinary abilities including those known as angels. Written by Tsugumi Ohba -the same author behind Death Note-, it’s sure to bring forth plenty of thrilling drama!
14. Strike the Blood
This anime series has been picked up for its comedy tone but also for its romance. If you happen to be a fan of romantic comedies – specifically ones that involve more than two people – then this is the perfect show for you! 2013’s Strike the Blood follows Kojo Akatsuki, an ordinary high schooler who soon learns he can use his new-found vampiric powers to protect both his city and his friends from all sorts of supernatural threats.
Because of this, the people in power at The Lion King Organization were concerned and sent out sword-shaman Yukina to monitor him, but they weren’t the only ones watching. Strike the Blood is much less mature than other anime series’. There are lots of shounen elements throughout the show such as battles which range from being thrilling and intense or absurdly comical. This also leads to some fanservice moments for adults. If you found yourself enjoying Devil’s Line because of when protagonist enters a fight and saves everyone before leaving – then we recommend giving STB a chance too!
15. Dance in the Vampire Bund
We cannot miss out on this anime because it contains the word vampire in its title. In Dance in the Vampire Bund (2010) we see one powerful vampire, Mina Tepes, who creates a safe haven for her brethren of vampires off the coast of Tokyo called The Bund. She does so by paying off Japan’s entire national debt – which was valued at $1 trillion USD at the time when she made the offer – with her own money.
However, when Mina reveals the existence of vampires to the world, she mentions how she desires for both races to live in peace. But tensions between humans and vampires interfered with her wish. Although there were examples such as an anime named Dance in the Vampire Bund which had similarities such as vampire-human relations being addressed and also containing comedy elements, this series was more brutal than Dance in the Vampire Bund. As such, viewers should not be discouraged to watch Devil’s Line but instead strive to watch it knowing what they are getting themselves into – because one cannot have light without dark just like one cannot have good without evil.
16. Hellsing Ultimate
What would you do if terrifying monsters came out of nowhere, destroying everything they see and wrecking havoc on the world? You release something even worse – a pure nightmare. This is the idea behind Hellsing Ultimate, who introduced their greatest weapon to combat against these beasts: Alucard. He can’t die because he’s a vampire, but that also means that he has all of these abilities at his disposal. When everyone else had given up hope for humanity – this was what saved us from utter destruction, one horrific creature at a time.
It would be safe to say that this show has vampires in it along with bloody fights. Alongside him is Seras Victoria, a policewoman turned vampire who helped him fight against anything related to bloodlust. The relationship between them isn’t too different from Anzai and Tsukasa’s – they’re pretty much just master and student. But don’t expect any romance in Hellsing! Though there are many similarities between this show and DEVIL LINE – which also happens to have great gore scenes. If you’re into that sort of thing then give this OVA a try!
17. Jujutsu Kaisen
This is one of my favorite movies. When you ask me, Jujutsu Kaisen offers the perfect blend of anime genres – Comedy, Action, Monsters, Demons, Battles and Jennifer Lawrence. You read that right; Jennifer Lawrence! 2020’s Jujutsu Kaisen swept across the world changing many people’s minds about what an excellent movie can be in just 10 years’ time- capturing not only those who watched it but also those who will watch this timeless masterpiece for generations to come. Itadori Yuji is a high school student with unnatural strength and always puts others before himself. One day when he was fooling around with friends- he ended up getting them into trouble by swallowing a cursed rotten finger to save his friends from certain death.
Kazuto’s life changes when he meets his perfect match – another vampire in Tsukune Aono. Although Tsukune is several years younger than Kazuto, they are equals in power and share a strong bond that only grows stronger over time. They’re matched so perfectly by fate, in fact, that Kazuto becomes the host of Sukuna- an impossibly powerful cursed demon! With Sukuna sealed away inside of him, Kazuto joins Akademi High School – a high school for sorcerers who fight against evil forces- where he meets all sorts of characters along his way…
18. Chainsaw Man
This is the only anime on this list that has not yet been released; it will release in October of this year. A critical success, this manga comes highly regarded among fans for being one of the best recent releases. In order to fully experience what it’s all about, make sure to read the manga beforehand – because Chainsaw Man follows protagonist Denji through a world where devils lurk around every corner, waiting to inflict pain or terror onto those they choose upon birth. So rich with detail and intrigue – enough so that it may sway you away from reading anything else at all – we can’t wait for its release next month!
One day he meets a government organization called Public Safety Devil Hunters who only exterminate devils when needed. There is a lot of action, horror, comedy, mature themes and violence in this anime- notably you will see battles against demons and watching them try to kill each other for power. And there’s even romance- like Denji’s relation with Power isn’t as strong as what Anzai or Tsukasa have but there are little hints of it here and there throughout Chainsaw Man. This anime also features things such as dogs barking too- so if that would bother you be careful!
19. Devilman Crybaby
Oh the agony! Never ending agony. This anime is one of the best I’ve seen on this list – Devilman Crybaby is an ONA based off a manga from 1972. In this world where demons are intent on destroying all humans, Akira Fudo finds himself with friends who encourage him to turn into something stronger. As he does so, gaining demonic powers and strength, he finds that his very soul remains intact – becoming Satan Man rather than just being someone possessed by evil spirits in order to protect those around them.
The key similarities between Devilman Crybaby and Devil’s Line are the protagonist’s tendencies to struggle against their own destructive impulses. As Akira struggles against his inner desire for destruction, so does Anzai against his need for blood. Even though they’re humans who try to steer clear of these impulses, it can be difficult at times- but they don’t give up just yet! And what do you know? You’ll find plenty of gore in both series! Unlike Devilman Crybaby, however; Devil’s Line has a lighter theme when it comes to mature topics such as love or puberty – just an FYI.
20. Tokyo Ghoul:re
Now, this last anime might come as a surprise. But it’s too good not to include on the list! So go check out Katharsis by TK. It is undoubtedly one of the best openings in this list- and you can find it right here! As for 2018’s Tokyo Ghoul:re… well, it takes place two years after the main events of Tokyo Ghoul. With all these changes coming from the CCG- which stands for Commission on Counter Ghoul (seriously!) – ghouls are much more careful than they were before. That’s why they need something like the Quinx squad; a team of elite human beings with ghoul qualities lead by an enigmatic man named Haise Sasaki who happens to be both human and ghoul himself!
This is similar to Devil’s Line for the same reason as Tokyo Ghoul. With a half-human, half-something protagonist living in a world where ghouls live in secrecy within humans working for an organization that hunts these demons, this is essentially Devil’s Line Shippuden. And if you enjoyed reading Tokyo Ghoul and its sequel; then we can assume you will also enjoy reading this one too! However, do keep in mind that the manga version of Tokyo Ghoul is much more superior than the anime adaptation.
Conclusion
